Exercising control when confronted by a (Brownian) spider
نویسنده
چکیده
We consider the Brownian ‘‘spider,’’ a construct introduced in Dubins and Schwarz (1988) and in Barlow and Pitman (1989). In this note, the author proves the ‘‘spider’’ bounds by using the dynamic programming strategy of guessing the optimal reward function and subsequently establishing its optimality by proving its excessiveness. © 2016 The Author(s). CFD simulations on natural convection heat transfer of alumina-water nanofluid with Brownian motion effect in a 3-D enclosure
The CFD simulation has been undertaken concerning natural convection heat transfer of a nanofluid in vertical square enclosure, whose dimension, width height length (mm), is 40 40 90, respectively. The nanofluid used in the present study is -water with various volumetric fractions of the alumina nanoparticles ranging from 0-3%. The Rayleigh number is . Fluent v6.3 is used to simulate nanofluid ...
متن کاملEffects of Brownian motion and Thermophoresis on MHD Mixed Convection Stagnation-point Flow of a Nanofluid Toward a Stretching Vertical Sheet in Porous Medium
This article deals with the study of the two-dimensional mixed convection magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) boundary layer of stagnation-point flow over a stretching vertical plate in porous medium filled with a nanofluid. The model used for the nanofluid incorporates the effects of Brownian motion and thermophoresis in the presence of thermal radiation. The skin-friction coefficient, Nusselt number an...
متن کاملSex-specific developmental plasticity of generalist and specialist predatory mites (Acari: Phytoseiidae) in response to food stress
We studied developmental plasticity under food stress in three female-biased size dimorphic predatory mite species, Phytoseiulus persimilis, Neoseiulus californicus, and Amblyseius andersoni. All three species prey on two-spotted spider mites but differ in the degree of adaptation to this prey. Phytoseiulus persimilis is a specialized spider mite predator, N. californicus is a generalist with a...
متن کاملImmobilization Based Control of Spider-Like Robots in Tunnel Environments
This paper presents an immobilization-based control method for spider-like robots that move quasistatically in tunnel environments. The control method is based on an immobilization theory which ensures that when a spider-like mechanism is bracing against the environment at an immobile posture, the naturally occurring compliance at the contacts stabilizes the mechanism as a single body. Based on...

This paper presents an immobilization-based control method for spider-like robots that move quasi-statically in tunnel environments. The control method is based on a recent immobilization theory of bodies in contact. This theory ensures that when a spider-like mechanism is bracing against the environment at an immobile posture, the naturally occurring compliance at the contacts stabilizes the m...
